Regenesis plants locally native vegetation to simultaneously:
+ Enhance biodiversity and improve the local environment for
wildlife habitat and agricultural benefits
+ Sequester (store) carbon from the atmosphere to help
address climate change
+ Provide landowners with long-term income through the
generation and trade of carbon offset certificates
+ Provide a local, verifiable carbon offset option for individuals
and businesses
Regenesis began as a partnership project of Blacktown City
Council and sister city, Liverpool Plains Shire Council, funded
by a three-year, $2 million grant from the NSW Environmental
Trust, which ended in 2010.
During the grant period, Regenesis planted more than 222,000
native plants across 100 hectares of land, established 33 native
vegetation carbon forests - 21 in urban Blacktown City and 12 in
rural Liverpool Plains Shire. Ten forests are privately owned, 21
are Council owned and two are on Crown land.
The Regenesis Forest Registry
Now, the Regenesis model continues with more planting and
with this Regenesis Forest Registry. The Regenesis Forest
Registry is an online register of bio-diverse carbon forests,
established to provide a clear pathway into carbon accounting
and trading for those wishing to generate carbon offset
certificates via revegetation and those wishing to purchase
carbon offset certificates.
The Regenesis Forest Registry has been structured to
accommodate various revegetation projects for various
landowners; public, private large and small, who have various
carbon trading objectives.
Refer to the links below for details on the various projects or
to purchase carbon offset certificates from these projects or
to include your eligible carbon forests in the Regenesis Forest
Registry.
